in my previous trip to HK, i saw some very interesting DIY lamps!
How cute are they!! I couldn't resist it and bought one. Had wanted the one that looks like a lampshade in the middle but that was out of stock so i settled for the one on the extreme left.
Finally, i decided it's time to make room for the lamp! so i got to work.
just a brown box
instructions + parts
pardon my homewear (that's why this image is smallest). notice hammer in hand!
Done & all set up!
i call it the "pixar" lamp.
my nights will never be the same again.
very happy about the new light source. more motivation to spend time at my desk. :)
desk time reminds me of the books i've read recently. i finally strike off one of the "30 books i aim to read before i'm 30" list. in my defense, i've been reading, just not those books on the list. one of the not-on-the-list books i recently read is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. i've heard a lot about him and his famous The Kite Runner. At a book fair recently, i managed to get these 2 books at a bargain and not knowing the background I chose to read A Thousand Splendid Suns first. Turns out, the other was Hosseini's first book which received critical acclaim.
despite the "mistake" of not reading his first book first, i enjoyed the book thoroughly! it was very good narrative and it moved me and showed me a world so different from mine. earlier this year, i thought to myself, currently i may not have the means to travel to the places i want to go, but i can travel the world through books and films and research, so that while i remain largely in Asia, i might still be a well-travelled person on the inside.
i concur that i'm more ignorant than i want to be. reading a book on the lives of 2 fictitious Afghanistan women and the whole crisis in the middle east from 1970s all the way leading up to 911 made me realise there is so much i don't know that i ought to know. i'm far too sheltered and i want to seek more, learn more, be more aware.
there's much word that people should travel young and all. i can't agree more. but what precedes that is learning to live within your means. so while i work at accumulating my gold, i will take my mind and soul on trips my body won't go yet. i'd encourage you to do the same. don't be resigned to settling in
your current spot. Pick your destination and start traveling! :)
Bon Voyage~
