I am back from my 10 day trip to Taiwan! And i shall document the various highlights of my trip beginning with Day 2. Allen & Kex were off to do their hair & grooming for the shoot, so i set off on my own to explore the Taipei city and beyond.
| Dined at NY Bagels for Brekkie! |
| Check out their chalk board with the NYC skyline! Take me to NYC one day! |
| a very NY interior. |
After brunch, i took the MRT to the northern tip of Taipei, to Tamsui 淡水。
| The coastline where the day of exploration begins. |
You know a country really takes food seriously when you find a museum dedicated to Fishballs!
God is the head of this town!
| Nestled at a corner of this town is an Anglican Church. |
| Pretty floor mural. |
| Couldn't resist a mid-day self shot with the mountain & waters as a bkdrop! |
| Aletheia University. Aletheia is greek for Truth. 真理大学 A Christian College. |
| A colonial quarter called the Little White House 小白宫, the former residence of Tamsui Tax Division Customs. |
| Fort San Domingo aka Red Castle. 红毛城 |
Last attraction I went to at Tamsui was the Fisherman's Wharf 鱼人码头 where the Lovers' Bridge 情人桥 is. Very beautiful place. But warning, go with a heavy stomach and best explored with a lover because the winds are especially strong there to the point you feel you are getting blown away (no exaggeration!), you need somebody to hold you or at least some food in your stomach to keep you on the ground!
The Lovers' Bridge is quite a magnificent structure. I like that there can be so many different perspectives derived from one bridge.
| Lovers' Bridge from a Distance |
| From one side of the bridge. |
| Lookng up. |
| Symmetry at work. Looks like a spider casting a web of love. yes cheesy. hehe. |
| Somewhere not far off, is a place where people hang their "love declarations". |
| A row of them. All on wood plagues, and in the strong winds, the pieces of wood make nice clucking sounds. Quite to the effect of a wind chime. again cheesy, hear the melodies of these love confessions. |
And here, it reads
1. Quieten your heart 2. Say out your lover's name 3. Close your eyes and make a wish
I suppose you ring the bell after doing these three things. I, of course, being who i am, didn't do it. HAHA. |
That was the end of seeing sights for the day, because i was so excited the whole time going from place to place that i forgot to eat since NY Bagels. I scurried back to Tamsui Old Street 老街, where food and shops can be found.
| Typical Night Market View |
| 阿给 - Ah Gei |
| Ah Gei is vermicelli wrapped in Tofu skin and fish paste. Doused in sweet sauce. I LOVE IT, |
| 虾卷 - Prawn Fritter |
Tamsui being by the coast is of course famous for their seafood and most of all their Fish products. That's why even in the Ah Gei, there is fish paste used and mind you, they are much more tastier and feels more real as compared to the fish cake we eat in Singapore. And below, is a true testament of what good FISHBALL taste like. no 4D experience here though, not even 3D, so here's hoping you sense the yumminess of the FISHBALL with the 2D pics. ;)
| yum yum and yum! |
| Walked pasted a traditional Puppet Theatre. Sadly, the puppeteer's head is showing. i wonder if he knows. spot his balding scalp! =X |
With that I left Tamsui and went back to the main TaiPei arena to meet Allen and Kexin and we were treated to the vv famous 陈三鼎 bubble tea by Allen's taiwanese friend, Kirk.
And then we called it a night! (:
